Whether you're an experienced deer hunter or planning your first exotic meat hunt, pursuing fallow does in West Texas offers a rewarding hunting experience with plenty of value beyond the time spent in the field.

Premium Fallow Venison for the Freezer

Fallow deer are highly regarded for their meat. Fallow venison is naturally lean, tender, and mild in flavor, making it an excellent choice for hunters who enjoy preparing and sharing wild game.

From tenderloins and backstraps to steaks, roasts, ground venison, and sausage, fallow meat is versatile in the kitchen and offers a delicious alternative to traditional whitetail venison.

Unlike trophy fallow buck hunts, where the animal's palmated antlers are a major attraction, our doe hunts focus on quality meat and the experience of pursuing these beautiful deer.

With two does included in each package, hunters can bring home a substantial amount of premium meat while making the most of a single West Texas hunting trip.

Two Fallow Doe Hunting Packages

  • Day Hunt — $1,800: A guided fallow doe hunt for two does without an overnight stay.
  • One-Day, One-Night Hunt — $1,950: A guided two-doe hunt with an overnight stay at BarBell Ranch.

These options make it easy to plan a hunting trip that fits your schedule, whether you're traveling from nearby or prefer to enjoy an overnight stay at the ranch.

Spot-and-Stalk or Blind Fallow Doe Hunts

At BarBell Ranch, hunters can choose between professionally guided spot-and-stalk hunting and hunting from a blind.

Spot-and-Stalk Fallow Deer Hunting

For hunters who enjoy an active pursuit, spot-and-stalk hunting offers the challenge of locating fallow deer and carefully working into position for an ethical shot.

Fallow deer are naturally alert, with sharp eyesight and an ability to detect movement. Their cautious behavior can make approaching them challenging, particularly when hunting groups of deer.

Working alongside your guide, you'll use the wind, available cover, and surrounding terrain to plan a careful approach. The challenge of closing the distance on these wary animals adds to the satisfaction of a successful meat hunt.

Hunting Fallow Does From a Blind

Hunters who prefer a more stationary approach can pursue fallow does from one of the ranch's hunting blinds.

Blind hunting allows hunters to observe deer movement and patiently wait for an appropriate shooting opportunity without the physical demands of an active stalk.

Both methods are professionally guided, giving hunters the flexibility to choose an approach suited to their experience and hunting preferences.

Questions

Fallow Doe hunting questions

Yes. Fallow deer are classified as exotic animals in Texas and can generally be hunted year-round on private property with landowner permission and a valid hunting license. Contact BarBell Ranch to discuss available hunt dates.
Do I need a Texas hunting license for a fallow doe hunt?
Yes. A valid Texas hunting license is required to hunt fallow deer. Eligible nonresident hunters may use the Texas Non-resident Special 5-Day Small Game/Exotic Hunting license. We recommend checking current Texas Parks and Wildlife licensing and hunter education requirements before your trip.
Can youth or first-time hunters participate in a fallow doe hunt?
Yes. BarBell Ranch welcomes young hunters and guests with different levels of hunting experience. Our guides can help first-time hunters prepare for the hunt and choose a hunting approach suited to their abilities. Contact us to discuss your child's age, experience, and any special arrangements before booking.
Do I need to bring my own rifle for a fallow doe hunt?
No. BarBell Ranch has rifles available for rent if you prefer not to bring your own firearm. Contact us before your hunt to confirm rental arrangements and discuss appropriate hunting equipment.
What should I bring to transport my fallow venison home?
We recommend bringing enough cooler space to transport meat from two fallow does. Ice and cold storage are available at the ranch. If you plan to use a professional meat processor, we recommend making arrangements before your hunting trip.
How much is required to reserve a fallow doe hunt?
A deposit equal to 50% of the total hunt cost is required to reserve your hunting dates. The remaining balance is due before or at the hunt unless other arrangements have been agreed to in writing.
What happens if I don't harvest a fallow doe?
Under the BarBell Ranch Promise, if your hunt ends without a harvest or wounded animal, we'll work with you to reschedule for a future date at no additional hunt fee. If an animal is wounded or blood is drawn, we'll make every reasonable effort to recover it, including tracking dogs or ranch drone support when available. Wounded animals are considered harvested whether recovered or not. Contact us to discuss how rescheduling applies if only one doe is harvested during a two-doe hunt.
