Eland Cow Hunts

Eland Cow Hunting in Texas

For hunters looking to bring home a substantial amount of quality wild game meat, few exotic hunting opportunities compare to an eland cow hunt. Eland are Africa's largest antelope species, known for their impressive size, powerful builds, and lean red meat.

At BarBell Ranch in Sweetwater, Texas, we offer guided eland cow hunts for hunters seeking a rewarding meat hunt in the heart of West Texas. These remarkable animals provide a hunting experience unlike pursuing smaller antelope or traditional deer, with the added benefit of an exceptionally large game animal for the freezer.

Whether you're an experienced exotic hunter or pursuing eland for the first time, the combination of the hunt and the meat value makes an eland cow an appealing choice.

An Exceptional African Antelope Meat Hunt

While eland bulls are often pursued for their massive frames and heavy spiral horns, eland cow hunts are particularly appealing to hunters focused on quality meat.

Eland are among the largest antelope in the world, and even females are substantial animals. Both sexes carry distinctive spiral horns, although cows generally have more slender horns than mature bulls.

For meat hunters, eland offer an attractive alternative to traditional venison. Their meat is naturally lean and can be prepared in a variety of ways, including steaks, roasts, ground meat, and sausage.

Because of their considerable size, hunters should plan ahead for processing and transporting their harvest. An eland cow can provide a meaningful amount of meat, making the hunt especially appealing to those looking to stock the freezer with quality wild game.

Spot-and-Stalk or Blind Eland Cow Hunts

At BarBell Ranch, hunters can choose between professionally guided spot-and-stalk hunting and hunting from a blind.

Spot-and-Stalk Eland Hunting

For hunters who enjoy an active pursuit, spot-and-stalk hunting offers the opportunity to locate an eland cow and carefully work into position for an ethical shot.

Despite their impressive size, eland are alert and surprisingly agile animals. Their ability to detect movement and move quickly makes patience and careful positioning important parts of the hunt.

Working alongside your guide, you'll evaluate the animal's position and use the available terrain and cover to plan an approach. Pursuing such a large African antelope on foot offers a different experience from hunting smaller exotic species.

Hunting Eland Cows From a Blind

Hunters who prefer a more stationary approach can pursue eland cows from one of the ranch's hunting blinds.

Blind hunting allows hunters to observe animal movement and wait for an appropriate shooting opportunity without the physical demands of an active stalk.

Both hunting methods are professionally guided, allowing you to choose the approach that best fits your experience, mobility, and hunting preferences.
