Massive Horns and a Beautiful Light-Colored Trophy

The defining feature of a mature snow urial is its combination of impressive horn development and striking coloration.

These distinctive sheep are known for their heavy horn bases, substantial mass, and sweeping curls. On mature rams, the horns can form magnificent arcs that create a powerful, unmistakable profile.

Their coats range from pale tan and blonde to beautiful ivory and nearly snow-white, with coloration varying between individual animals.

The contrast between their light-colored coats and dark, heavy horns creates a particularly impressive trophy.

Hunters evaluating snow urial often consider horn length, mass, curl, symmetry, and overall maturity. Each ram develops its own characteristics, making the opportunity to select an impressive animal an important part of the hunting experience.

For hunters who appreciate exceptional horn development, a mature snow urial can make an outstanding addition to a trophy collection.

A Unique Trophy Sheep Developed in Texas

One of the most interesting aspects of snow urial is their unusual background.

Unlike sheep species that originated in the mountains of North America, Asia, or Europe, snow urial were developed in Texas by crossing urial sheep with Texas Dall sheep.

This combination produced a distinctive type of exotic sheep prized for its pale coloration, powerful build, and impressive horn potential.

Snow urial are not the same as wild Alaskan Dall sheep, but their appearance and substantial horns make them an appealing option for hunters who appreciate magnificent light-colored sheep trophies.

For exotic sheep enthusiasts, their Texas origins and distinctive characteristics give snow urial a particularly interesting place among the many ram varieties available to hunt.

BarBell Ranch's gallery features an actual mature snow urial ram photographed on the property, displaying the appearance and impressive horn development that make these animals so desirable.

Spot-and-Stalk or Blind Snow Urial Hunts

At BarBell Ranch, hunters can choose between professionally guided spot-and-stalk hunting and hunting from a blind.

Spot-and-Stalk Snow Urial Hunting

For hunters who enjoy an active pursuit, spot-and-stalk hunting offers the excitement of locating, evaluating, and carefully approaching a mature snow urial ram.

These alert sheep can be quick to notice movement and react to potential danger, making patience and careful positioning important parts of the hunt.

Working alongside your guide, you'll search the surrounding country for suitable rams, evaluate their horns and trophy characteristics, and develop an approach based on the wind, available cover, and terrain.

Successfully closing the distance on a mature ram and working into position for an ethical shot adds to the satisfaction of bringing home an exceptional trophy.

Hunting Snow Urial From a Blind

Hunters who prefer a more stationary approach can pursue snow urial from one of the ranch's hunting blinds.

Blind hunting offers the opportunity to observe animal movement and wait for an appropriate shooting opportunity without the physical demands of an active stalk.

Both hunting methods are professionally guided, allowing hunters to choose an approach suited to their experience, preferences, and physical abilities.
