Eland Bull Hunting in Texas

Few exotic hunting experiences compare to the opportunity to pursue a mature eland bull. As Africa's largest antelope, eland are impressive animals with powerful builds, distinctive spiral horns, and a commanding presence that sets them apart from other exotic game.

At BarBell Ranch in Sweetwater, Texas, we offer professionally guided eland bull hunts for hunters seeking an exceptional trophy and a rewarding West Texas hunting experience. Mature bulls can weigh more than 1,500 pounds, making them one of the largest exotic animals available to pursue at the ranch.

Whether you're an experienced hunter looking for a remarkable African plains game trophy or planning your first hunt for a large exotic antelope, an eland bull offers something truly different.

The Impressive Trophy of a Mature Eland Bull

An eland bull is a trophy defined by its size, strength, and distinctive appearance. Mature bulls develop massive shoulders, heavy necks, and thick horns with characteristic spirals near their bases.

Their tan to grayish coats, prominent dewlaps, and powerful frames give them an unmistakable appearance. Unlike antelope prized primarily for exceptionally long horns, the appeal of a mature eland bull lies in the combination of horn development, body size, and overall maturity.

For hunters interested in African plains game, an eland offers the opportunity to pursue one of the continent's most impressive antelope species without leaving Texas.

Spot-and-Stalk or Blind Eland Bull Hunts

At BarBell Ranch, hunters can choose between guided spot-and-stalk hunting and hunting from a blind. Both approaches offer an opportunity to pursue these impressive animals while accommodating different hunting preferences.

Spot-and-Stalk Eland Hunting

For hunters who enjoy an active pursuit, spot-and-stalk hunting offers the opportunity to locate an eland bull and carefully work into position for a suitable shot.

Despite their tremendous size, eland are alert animals that can move surprisingly quickly. Successfully approaching one requires patience, careful observation, and thoughtful use of the available terrain and cover.

Working alongside your guide, you'll plan an approach based on the animal's position and the conditions in the field. The experience of pursuing such an imposing animal on foot is part of what makes an eland hunt memorable.

Hunting Eland Bulls From a Blind

Hunters who prefer a more stationary approach can pursue eland bulls from one of our hunting blinds.

Blind hunting provides an opportunity to observe animal movement and wait for the right shot without the physical demands of an active stalk.

Both hunting styles are professionally guided, allowing you to choose the approach that best fits your experience, mobility, and hunting preferences.

An Exceptional Trophy With Excellent Meat Value

While an eland bull makes an impressive trophy, these animals are also highly regarded for their meat.

Eland meat is lean, flavorful, and well suited for a variety of wild game dishes, from steaks and roasts to ground meat and sausage.

The tremendous size of a mature bull makes meat preparation and transportation an important part of planning your hunt. Hunters interested in bringing home eland meat should make appropriate arrangements for processing and transportation before their trip.

For those who value both a remarkable trophy and quality table fare, an eland bull offers an appealing combination.
